The Twins are here!!

Hi all,

Lakshmi and I were blessed with a baby boy and girl this morning (Feb 20th 10am). Medha Syama Saggurti and Pavan Kumar Saggurti weighed in at 6lbs 2oz and 7lbs 4oz respectively. Medha is 18inches long and her brother Pavan is an inch longer.

Taking after their mom, they are already doing well on exams and topped their class in the APGAR tests. Babies are healthy and Mom is recovering well. Dad is wondering if he'll ever stop smiling.

Here are some pictures...

Getting Ready For The Delivery

The delivery date has been moved

Ok gang,

The twins are going to spend a little more time in mommy's tummy before coming out. We met with our obstetrician, Dr. Ken Weber, today. He informed us that "Baby B" (that's doctor speak for the baby higher up in the uterus) is not head down. That makes it 50% probability that there has to be a c-section for the second baby. This would mean that the chances were fairly high that Lakshmi would be experiencing the pain of natural childbirth AND the longer recovery times of a c-section.

So after discussing the pros and cons with the doctor and each other, we decided it was better to go with a planned c-section. Since the hospital was booked for c-sections on Wednesday and the doctor had Thursday off, we set Friday Feb 20th as the day of choice.

This gives us a couple more days to get ready for the babies, wrap up things in the office, figure out how to change diapers, and still get 8 hours of sleep a day. This also means that Lakshmi and the babies will be in the hospital for 4 days after the birth instead of the usual 2 days.

I have my trusty Canon G3 ready for the big day. Deepalu lent us his video camera, until I get the new Sony TRV318. A week's worth of cloth diapers are ready for dispatch, as are the crib and the car seats.

Radhika (Markandeya) spoke to Lakshmi today, and gave her a bunch of tips on how to handle the delivery as well as raising twins. This was very sweet of Radhika to do this. It made Lakshmi feel a whole lot better equipped.

As if to show that we're surrounded by nice people, Anu-Murali stopped by on Sunday and Nipa-Deepalu stopped by yesterday. We're truly fortunate to have such nice people as friends.

Some belated holiday cheer

Taa taa, i'll keep you posted with more updates.

Now That Lakshmi's Off From Work...

Hello again,

As of last Monday Feb 2nd, Lakshmi is on maternity leave from Apple. She's really enjoying her break before the babies come. Her parents came over from San Jose on Wednesday Feb 4th and are staying with us now. They are so nice and caring. They are taking such great care of Lakshmi. Yep, it makes me look bad for not doing half as much! :-)

Lakshmi also got a new hairdo in anticipation of the kids' arrival. It's quite a change from the APCO model from the previous week, but still in ishtyle, no?

Her hairstylist commented on how healthy Lakshmi's hair looked. Check it out for yourself.

As of today, we've completed 37 weeks of pregnancy. So it should be anytime over the next week. Maybe Mahasivaratri? Let's see.

The countdown has begun. It's the homestretch. The 50th over. The ninth innings. The fifth set. The final lap.... You get the picture. :-)
